More Undefeated’s Go Down…BCS Shaping Up

Michigan State and Missouri Go Down

One week after knocking off the number one team in the land, Missouri was taken down by the Nebraska Cornhuskers.  I have previously stated that Nebraska was insanely overrated after they lost to the Texas Longhorns.  The Huskers raced out to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.  Roy Helu Jr. ran for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Helu broke runs of 66, 73, and 53 yards for touchdowns ending Missouri’s run for a BCS bid.

Michigan State’s undefeated campaign ended with Iowa stomping the Spartans 37-6.  NFL prospect Ricky Stanzi threw for 3 touchdowns while Spartan quarterback Kirk Cousins threw 3 interceptions including one pick six.  There should ultimately be no surprise that these teams were eventually knocked off from the undefeated ranks.  They did have some marquee wins but the chances of both teams continuing their streaks were remote.

Five Undefeateds Remain

Auburn, Oregon, Boise State, TCU, and Utah all remain undefeated so far this season.  Auburn was able to dismantle Ole Miss 51-31 moving to 9-0.  Oregon beat USC 53-32 moving up to the number one spot in the BCS with a record of 8-0.  Boise State took down Louisiana Tech as expected 49-20, moving them down to number 4 in the BCS.  TCU beat 1-7 UNLV 48-6 moving to number 3 in the BCS after playing another cupcake team.  Lastly Utah, survived Air Force 28-23.

Next week the game of the week is a matchup of undefeated teams in TCU vs Utah.  For each team it is the last of any notable opponents.  The winner of this game will ensure themselves a BCS bid.  Whether that bid is for the national championship remains to be seen.  Auburn has a layup with Chatanooga next week.  Oregon will face Washington without Jake Locker. Boise State will play an always dangerous Hawaii team.

Heisman Watch

Cam Newton is already building a trophy case in which he can put the most prestigious trophy in all of sports.  The trophy is his to lose at this point.  Newton is a great story who has proven that when given a second chance, you have to take it and run with it.  Newton was arrested for stealing a laptop back when he was at the University of Florida.  He had every intention of coming back until Tim Tebow announced he was coming back for his senior year.  Newton saw this and decided to transfer to Blinn Junior College where he learned leadership skills and became a man.  He got away from the penitentiary that is a program run by Urban Meyer (25 arrests since he has been at Florida).  Now the 6’6 250 pound quarterback is staring at a Heisman Trophy, a national championship berth, and a potential top pick in the NFL Draft.  The best part about this is that there is no one even close to consideration for second place.
